Catching Fire



 Katniss now lives where all the tributes live when they return after winning the Hunger Games. Everything is fine until a visit from President Snow. Katniss was surprised to see him due to the fact he rarely visits or is seen. Instead of congratulating her, he threatens her if she does any more rebellious acts towards the capitol. He wants Katniss to prove her love to Peeta, so they are compelled to get married. Unfortunately, the marriage never happens because they are back in the arena again.
 The next Hunger games happens to be the 75th anniversary Quell. This time all the past tributes from each district return to the arena. Haymitch convinces them to make allies with Finnick, Johanna, and Beetee. Katniss and Peeta do not know that their goal is to keep them alive far enough to break out of the games. Once the time was right, the breaking in began. Haymitch got Katniss out before the Capitol to take them to District 13. It is the safest place because everyone thinks that it is a waste land. Unfortunately, Peeta was taken by the Capitol. Also, Katniss' homeland of District 12, no longer exists.

Quote: "The bird, the pin, the song, the berries, the watch, the cracker, the dress, that bursts into flames. I am the mocking Jay. The one that survived despite the Capitol's plans. The symbol of rebellion." (Collins, 386)

Katniss just realized that ever since she picked up the berries from the last Hunger Games, she has been a symbol of rebellion for all the other districts. The mocking jay gave people hope, just as it did for katniss during her first Hunger Games.

Chinese Cinderella By Adaline Yen Mah

  Chinese Cinderella is a story about an unwanted girl that uses education and her love for literature as a way to escape her misery. After the death of her mother when giving birth to her, Adeline was dispised by her family. The only people who cared for her were her Aunt Baba and grandfather, YeYe. Her father then married another woman and had two other children, from the rest of his five children. Adeline's new step-mother, Niang is very cruel to her. There is often favoritism in their home for her step-siblings then the rest.
  Growing up in China during the civil war between the Communists and the Nationalists really made it hard for Adeline. Her and her family would often move from city to city. Adeline would be left in boarding school and forgotten by her family often. She was always the head in her class and there she soon found her love in literature. She decides to enter an international play-writing contest competition held in England and dedicate her work to her YeYe. She was saddened by his death, but soon after rejoiced by the news of her winning in the competition. She regains honor from her father in which he allows her to pursue her education by attending college in England. This had been her life long dream for so long.

CHINESE CINDERELLA" (Mah, 197)

This quote refers to Ye Xian, the original Cinderella told through Chinese tales. Likewise to the story of Cinderella, Adeline "defied the odds" as said from her Aunt Baba, and found success when her life seemed to all go downhill.
